Blog Post #3

For this blog post I read the article/activity "Single Pilot IFR". The article itself is explaining statistics and facts about flying IFR/IMC as the sole operator of an aircraft and the only person in the aircraft itself. Flying single pilot IFR can be something that proves very dangerous, though as explained by the article it can be done safely. What is dangerous about flying single pilot IFR is that juggling all of the different things to do can be extremely stressful and tolling. CRM is done by ones self and can be very overwhelming. After reading the article I feel that my stance on flying single pilot IFR has not changed. At this very moment I am rated as an IFR pilot and am current on my approach procedures etc.. Though I would not fly IFR in IMC by myself at this time (without another IFR rated pilot). I do not feel that I have enough experience with IFR and am not current enough to fly by myself in harsh conditions. Though after a flight or two with someone else I would possibly consider flying single pilot IFR under more dire circumstances (if I HAD to be somewhere and flying by myself was the only option). One tip that I received form the presentation was that if I am going through a checklist and I become distracted, to restart the checklist instead of just resuming. This practice makes sure that EVERYTHING on the checklist gets done and nothing is neglected.
